The committee is run by a team of experienced and passionate students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and with different interests, making it a very exciting place to work in. The committee members work together regularly to ensure that several events are organised throughout the year and that BE lives up to the highest expectations of all BE members.
A brief description of the committee members can be found below.
President: Samantha Ball
Samantha is currently in her final year studying BA (Hons) Fine Art. She grew up around a strong family business environment to which encouraged her to par-take her interest in entrepreneurship: starting with submitting her winning entry to the Oxford Brookes Business Plan Competition, and carrying it through into the Santander finals.
Samantha is currently working as the Concept Exhibition Curator for Oxford Fashion Week. In September she will begin her volunteer work for Santander.
She participates in various activities from OUDC Ballroom Dance and participates in Public Speaking events. Samantha’s goal is to establish the Brookes Entrepreneur Society for this year. After graduating, she plans to take on a Santander Internship, whilst continuing to develop her business concepts.
Vice President: George Pedrick
George is a second year student currently pursuing a bachelor degree majoring in Real Estate Management. He aspires to work within the business world upon graduation, either as a business consultant or ideally running his own business. Having started his first business at the age of 13, George has been passionate about business and entrepreneurship from a young age. He has successfully set up and run various businesses and is currently in the process of expanding his company, Zack Lance.
Aside from university, George is a keen sportsman with a particular interest in football and tennis. Similarly to Rebecca, he has spent his last two summers in America working at a summer camp in Connecticut, coaching football.
Head of Operations: Rebecca Hunter
Rebecca has been on the Brookes Entrepreneurs committee throughout her University life and taken on a variety of positions including Financial Director, Marketing Director and Vice-President. La
st year, Rebecca was the inaugural winner of the IF! Britain Writing Competition for her idea to embed entrepreneurship into the school curriculum to help develop entrepreneurial traits in young children. Rebecca’s innovative and entrepreneurial ideas don’t stop there; she was also the winner of the Oxford Brookes’ App Competition in 2012.
Rebecca has spent the past thirteen months on a placement year at RateMyPlacement.co.uk where she took on the responsibility of developing and implementing a clear social media strategy for the company.
Outside of university, Rebecca loves to sail and has spent the past three summers at a summer camp in Northern Michigan teaching children to sail Sunfish and Precision boats.
Social secretary: Karel Kingsley
Karel is a first year member of BE and a third year student currently pursuing a bachelor degree majoring in Law and minoring in Sociology. She also studied Integrated Social Sciences at Jacobs University in Germany. Karel is a sociable and introverted individual with many interests exploring the many aspects of law through a sociological lens. She aspires to have a legal career and use the skills gained from the various activities she is involved with to reach her goal and help those that would benefit from it the most. Karel is a member of the OBU Law Society, an intern at Fahamu Refugee Programme where she creates country profiles making legal information easily accessible to refugees and lawyers as well as holding a part-time job.
Karel is an international student from America and has spent this summer holiday completing a graduate work placement at Oxford City Council’s Law and Governance service area.
Events Director: Tom Crowe
Tom is currently in his third year studying Business Management and Geography, this is his first year as a committee member of the Brookes Entrepreneurs society. His main interests lie in small business start-ups and the creation of sustainable and socially responsible business solutions. Tom has worked two part time jobs in retail over the past three years and has acquired many of the skills needed to become successful in this sector. He is a keen sportsman whose favourite pastimes include running, cycling and playing basketball for the university team.
Communications Director: Dominic Bruce
Dom is a final year student studying Business and Management. Dom was interested in Business early on having witnessed successful and inspirational entrepreneurs enjoying the new experiences while tackling the uncertainties. Dom is a proactive well-rounded and enthusiastic individual. He is eager for knowledge and learning demonstrated by obtaining many different skills from numerous industries, which is demonstrated, by being a tennis coach during term time too. Furthermore through his bar work he met Richard Branson in September!
Marketing Director: Jack Butchart
Jack is an international student from Zimbabwe currently in his second year of a degree in Construction Project Management. Jack was a member of Brookes Entrepreneurs last year with this being his first year as a committee member for the society. Jack has worked as a marketing intern for Utande internet, a major internet provider in Zimbabwe, where he helped to launch a new Wifi product for them. Jack has always been interested in entrepreneurship and business and has plans to start his own construction business in Africa.
Outside of university Jack enjoys playing sports, photography and travelling.
